SECL Launches Low-Height Continuous Miner at Bartarai Underground Mine in Jamuna–Kotma Area
Jamuna–Kotma: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) inaugurated a modern Low-Height Continuous Miner machine at the Bartarai Underground Mine in the Jamuna–Kotma area on 10 March 2026, marking a significant step toward adopting advanced mining technology to enhance coal production and safety.
The machine was formally inaugurated by N. Franklin Jayakumar, Director (Technical–Operations), SECL. During the event, he highlighted that the use of modern mining technologies will not only increase coal production but also make mining operations safer and more efficient.
Jayakumar noted that the Low-Height Continuous Miner is particularly effective for mining in low-seam coal deposits, where traditional mining equipment faces operational challenges. The deployment of such advanced machinery is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency and safety standards in underground mining.
The programme was attended by Ajay Kumar, In-charge Regional General Manager, and Dipendu Samanta, Executive Director (TMC), along with members of the Regional Joint Consultative Committee, Regional Welfare Committee, Regional Safety Committee, representatives of SISTO, SC/ST/OBC councils, OBC Welfare Association members, and a large number of SECL officials and employees.
With the introduction of the new machine at the Bartarai mine, the Jamuna–Kotma area is expected to achieve its production targets more efficiently and contribute significantly to the country’s energy requirements. The initiative also reflects Coal India Limited’s continued focus on adopting modern, safe, and high-productivity mining technologies across its operations.
