SJVN Limited Chairman & Managing Director Shri Bhupender Gupta, accompanied by Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), and Shri Sipan Kumar Garg, Director (Finance), held a series of high-level meetings in Kathmandu with key leadership of the Government of Nepal to assess the progress of SJVN’s ongoing and upcoming hydropower projects.

During the visit, Shri Gupta met the Hon’ble Minister of Energy, Water Resources & Irrigation, Shri Kulman Ghising, along with senior officials including the Secretary (Energy), Secretary (Finance), the CEO of Investment Board Nepal (IBN), and the Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

 

He also called on H.E. Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Nepal, and the Additional Secretary (North), Ministry of External Affairs, to discuss India–Nepal hydropower cooperation and project facilitation.

Review of Arun-3, Lower Arun & Transmission Line Projects

Shri Gupta provided a comprehensive update on the progress of SJVN’s major hydropower initiatives in Nepal, including:

  • 900 MW Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project (HEP)

  • 217 km associated Transmission Line

  • 669 MW Lower Arun Hydroelectric Project (HEP)

He highlighted critical bottlenecks affecting transmission line construction and the Lower Arun project, seeking timely intervention and coordinated support from the Government of Nepal to keep project timelines on track.

Nepal Assures Full Cooperation

Senior officials of the Government of Nepal appreciated SJVN’s efforts and reaffirmed their commitment to:

  • extend full cooperation,

  • fast-track clearances,

  • and ensure swift resolution of pending issues

to enable seamless implementation of SJVN’s hydropower and transmission projects.

The meetings underscore the deepening India–Nepal partnership in energy, with SJVN playing a pivotal role in strengthening cross-border power cooperation and clean energy development in the Himalayan region.
