SJVN Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station Achieves 150 Billion Units Milestone
Shimla, 9 March 2026: SJVN Limited (SJVN), a joint venture of the Government of India and Government of Himachal Pradesh, proudly announced that its Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) has achieved a historic milestone of 150 billion units (BU) of cumulative electricity generation. NJHPS is India’s largest underground hydroelectric power station and plays a pivotal role in supporting the northern power grid.
Celebrations and Leadership Message
The milestone was celebrated at the NJHPS Power House with Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN, and Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel) in attendance, along with senior officials. Sh. Gupta praised the dedicated NJHPS team, noting that since commissioning in May 2004, the station has consistently demonstrated operational reliability and contributed significantly to grid stability and green energy generation.
The project has also achieved remarkable benchmarks:

Highest annual generation: 7,610.257 million units in FY 2011–12

Highest monthly generation: 1,222.170 million units in July 2024

Highest daily generation: 39.572 million units on 13 August 2024

The 150 BU milestone represents a significant reduction in fossil-fuel-based generation and greenhouse gas emissions, reinforcing NJHPS’s role in India’s clean energy transition.
