RBI Signs Agreement with Delhi Government to Handle Banking and Debt Management
Reserve Bank of India signs agreement with GNCT Delhi to carry out general banking business and manage rupee public debt from January 9, 2026.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has entered into an agreement with the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) to carry out its general banking business and manage its rupee public debt.
The agreement has been signed under Section 21A(1) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, and will come into effect from January 9, 2026, the RBI said in a press release issued on January 5, 2026.
Under the arrangement, the RBI will act as the banker to the Delhi government and oversee the management of its domestic public debt.
