IPS Officer Tapan Kumar Deka gets extension as Director of Intelligence Bureau

New Delhi, 21 May 2025: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension in service of Shri Tapan Kumar Deka, IPS (HP:88) as Director, Intelligence Bureau for one year beyond 30.06.2025 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, in relaxation of the provisions of FR 56 (d) and Rule 16 (1A) of All India Services (Death cum Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
Tapan Kumar Deka (born 25 February 1963) is an Indian bureaucrat and IPS officer currently serving as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau of India. He belongs to the Himachal Pradesh cadre of the 1988 batch.
He was empanelled as the Director General of Police in 2021. Deka's tenure as the Director of the Intelligence Bureau started on 1 July, as his predecessor Arvind Kumar's tenure ended on 30 June 2022.
