Arunachal CM backs stalled Subansiri

Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki is hopeful of work resuming on the stalled 2000MW Lower Subansiri project at Gerukamukh on the Assam-Arunachal border by September.

Work on the project, which is set to benefit both the neighbouring states, stopped in December 2011 following massive protests from anti-big dam groups such as the KMSS.

Tuki’s revelation comes just over a fortnight of a National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) team holding a meeting with Assam power minister Pradyut Bordoloi in Guwahati to discuss the future of the project.

A senior NHPC official had said after the meeting that Dispur had given them a set of recommendations on how to move ahead on the project front and that they, too, had conveyed the steps taken by the corporation to resolve the stand off. TELEGRAPH
