China Reaffirms Strong Commitment to HIV/AIDS Prevention on World AIDS Day
China calls for stronger awareness, early detection, and continued nationwide support as the country reinforces its HIV/AIDS prevention efforts on World AIDS Day.
China has reiterated its commitment to keeping HIV/AIDS under control as the country marked the 38th World AIDS Day. During an inspection of prevention and treatment programs in Beijing, the nation’s vice premier emphasized that although China continues to maintain a low overall prevalence of HIV/AIDS, the situation still requires unwavering attention. He noted that various social and demographic factors continue to influence transmission trends, making it essential that prevention and awareness campaigns remain strong and consistent.
He urged health authorities to expand targeted education efforts, especially among groups most vulnerable to infection. According to the leadership, interventions must be more comprehensive, combining accurate information, easy access to services, and focused outreach in regions and communities facing higher risks. Strengthening early detection, improving treatment accessibility, and ensuring timely medical support were highlighted as critical elements for maintaining progress.
The vice premier also stressed that the response to HIV/AIDS cannot rely solely on healthcare systems. He called for broader public participation, encouraging communities, institutions, and individuals to engage in awareness and support initiatives. Humanistic care and the protection of rights for people living with HIV were emphasized as essential to reducing stigma and ensuring equal access to healthcare, employment, and social services.
China has recently updated its national guidelines for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, reflecting global standards and aiming to enhance early diagnosis and standardized treatment.
