Cuban President Says Nation Will Defend Its Independence ‘To the Last Drop of Blood’
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel says Cuba is ready to defend its sovereignty and independence against US pressure after 66 years of hostility.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has declared that Cuba is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and independence “to the last drop of blood,” amid what he described as 66 years of pressure and hostility from the United States.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Díaz-Canel said Cuba remains firm in protecting its national dignity and will not accept any form of external interference.
“Cuba is a free, independent and sovereign country. No one dictates to us what to do. Cuba does not attack; it is attacked by the United States and threatened. Cuba prepares itself and is ready to defend itself to the last drop of blood,” the Cuban leader wrote.
The remarks underline Havana’s long-standing position on its relationship with Washington and come at a time when diplomatic tensions between the two countries remain unresolved.
Cuba and the United States have maintained strained relations for decades, with Havana frequently condemning economic sanctions and political pressure imposed by Washington, which Cuban officials say have harmed the country’s development and wellbeing.
While the United States and Cuba have made periodic efforts to ease tensions in recent years, fundamental disagreements over governance, human rights and foreign policy continue to shape their complex relationship.
Díaz-Canel’s statement signals that Cuba intends to continue pursuing its political path independently, while remaining prepared to defend its sovereignty against any external threat.
