The World Bank Group has announced the appointment of Paschal Donohoe as its new Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer. Donohoe, who has been serving as Ireland’s Minister for Finance since January 2025 and previously held the role of Eurogroup President, will assume office on November 24.

 

World Bank President Ajay Banga praised Donohoe’s two decades of public service and nearly ten years of private-sector experience with Procter & Gamble, noting that his deep understanding of policy, investment, and financial systems will significantly strengthen the Bank’s mission. As Chief Knowledge Officer, Donohoe will oversee the World Bank’s Knowledge Bank, ensuring that global expertise, regulatory insights, and innovative development solutions are effectively deployed to help emerging and developing economies.

His responsibilities will also include shaping strategic partnerships with governments, civil society, philanthropies, and the private sector, helping scale up proven development models across regions. Donohoe said he looks forward to promoting global cooperation and addressing critical global challenges through collaborative policymaking.

Recognized internationally for his leadership, Donohoe has received honors such as European of the Year and France’s prestigious Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur.
