Government Prioritizes Domestic LPG Supply Amid Global Disruptions; 25-Day Booking Rule Introduced
New Delhi, March 09, 2026: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, has announced measures to ensure uninterrupted domestic supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the wake of global geopolitical disruptions affecting fuel availability.
The Ministry has issued directives to oil refineries to increase LPG production, with the additional output earmarked primarily for household consumption. To curb hoarding and black marketing, a 25-day inter-booking period has been introduced for domestic LPG bookings.
For non-domestic LPG supplies, imported LPG will be prioritized for critical sectors, including hospitals, educational institutions, and other essential services. To address requests from other non-domestic sectors such as restaurants, hotels, and industrial users, a committee of three Executive Directors from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) has been formed to review and approve applications for supply.
These steps are part of the government’s proactive approach to safeguard domestic LPG availability and ensure equitable distribution across households and priority sectors.
