PESB Begins Search for Next NTPC Director (Projects); Vacancy Arises in June 2027
New Delhi: State-owned power giant NTPC Limited has invited applications for the post of Director (Projects), with the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) issuing Advertisement No. 72/2026 for the prestigious board-level position. The vacancy is scheduled to arise on June 1, 2027.
The Director (Projects) position is a Schedule 'A' post carrying an Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA) pay scale of ₹1.80 lakh to ₹3.40 lakh. The selected candidate will be appointed for a period of five years from the date of joining or until superannuation, whichever is earlier.
As a member of the Board of Directors, the Director (Projects) will report directly to the Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC and will be responsible for project planning, execution, commissioning, and completion of power projects within stipulated timelines, quality standards, and cost frameworks. The role also includes overseeing consultancy services and joint ventures in domestic and international markets.
According to the eligibility criteria, applicants should be engineering graduates from recognized universities or institutes, while candidates possessing an MBA or Post Graduate Diploma in Management will have an added advantage. Candidates should have at least five years of experience during the last ten years in project planning, project execution, or project management. Experience in construction and commissioning of power sector projects is considered desirable.
The post is open to candidates from Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), Central Government services, State PSUs with annual turnover exceeding ₹10,000 crore, and eligible private sector companies and joint ventures meeting the prescribed turnover criteria. Preference will be given to candidates from listed private companies.
Applicants from CPSEs should have served in the eligible scale for a minimum period as prescribed, while candidates from private companies and state enterprises should be working at board level or one level below the board. Central Government officers would be considered only on an immediate absorption basis.
NTPC, which attained Maharatna status in 2010, has evolved into an integrated power company with interests spanning thermal and renewable energy generation, coal mining, power trading, consultancy, and distribution. As of March 31, 2026, the Government of India held a 51.10 percent stake in the company.
Interested candidates can submit applications online through the PESB website. The last date for submission of online applications is July 14, 2026, up to 3:00 PM, while forwarding of applications by the concerned authorities must be completed by July 23, 2026.
Incomplete applications or those received after the prescribed deadline will not be considered.
