HMEL Signs Strategic MoUs with Emerson and AVEVA at India Energy Week 2025
The partnership with AVEVA would focus on Developing Artificial Intelligence & Digitalization Solution for Smart Refining & Petrochemical Operations at HMEL.

Delhi, February 12, 2025 – HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) has signed two significant memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with global automation giants Emerson and AVEVA during the ongoing India Energy Week 2025 in New Delhi.
The partnerships are aimed to augment HMEL’s digital technology adaptation to wider refinery and petrochemical process units by implementing disrupting technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Advance Analytics, Real Time Optimizer to improve process efficiency, safety and sustainability.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prabh Das, MD & CEO, HMEL, commented, “Process automation has been at the heart of HMEL’s strategic vision for building a smart enterprise. We are thrilled to partner with Emerson and AVEVA to develop innovative automation solutions that will boost digital transformation at HMEL.”
HMEL is digital-first organization, operating one of the most modern Integrated Refinery-Petrochemical Complex ‘Guru Gobind Singh Refinery’ at Bathinda, Punjab. The refinery constitutes of an 11.3 MMTPA Crude Oil Refinery and a 1.2 MMTPA Multi-Feed Cracker along with 1.2 MMTPA Polyethylene (PE) and 1.0 MMTPA Polypropylene (PP) Plants. Leveraging the latest technology and partnering with the best of the partners has enabled HMEL to deliver stellar operational performance and profitability with strict adherence to safety and environmental standards.

The partnership with AVEVA would focus on Developing Artificial Intelligence & Digitalization Solution for Smart Refining & Petrochemical Operations at HMEL.

There is also a plan of Establishing a Center of Excellence along with AVEVA for analytics-driven refinery transformation as well as driving long-term co-innovation initiatives and strengthening HMEL’s position as a leader in refinery digitalization.
Furthermore, the MoU with the global automation leader, Emerson has been signed on co-development of innovative solution for Energy Value chain Optimization’ including optimization of the Oils to Chemicals supply chain for improving margins through real-time industrial data platform for enterprise-wide integration and visualization.

HCPL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) is a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Mittal Energy Investment Pte Ltd, Singapore – part of the Lakshmi N Mittal Group. Both the joint venture partners hold a stake of 49% each in the company, the balance 2% is held by Indian Financial Institutions. HMEL owns and operates an Integrated Refinery-Petrochemical Complex ‘Guru Gobind Singh Refinery’ at Bathinda, Punjab comprising of an 11.3 MMTPA Crude Oil Refinery and a 1.2 MMTPA Multi-Feed Cracker along with 1.2 MMTPA Polyethylene (PE) and 1.0 MMTPA Polypropylene (PP) Plants. Additionally, it also operates a 1017 km long crude pipeline from Gujarat to Punjab along with associated facilities.
