Noida International Airport and IGL collaborated for Sustainable CNG Infrastructure
Noida International Airport has partnered with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) to establish Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure as part of its commitment to sustainable transportation. As part of this collaboration, IGL will construct two CNG stations: one in the western precinct and another in the airside area.
These stations will cater to travelers, staff, and airport partners. Furthermore, IGL will develop a City Gas Distribution (CGD) network at the airport, ensuring convenient access to the CNG stations.
The partnership will also involve installing pipeline infrastructure to supply piped natural gas (PNG) to food and beverage outlets, lounges, and kitchens within the terminal and other airport buildings.

Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport, said, “Our collaboration with Indraprastha Gas Limited marks another step in our journey towards building a sustainable and future-ready airport. By integrating CNG infrastructure, we are providing cleaner fuel alternatives to airport users while supporting the broader transition to greener mobility in the region."
This initiative is in line with NIA’s goal of creating an environmentally conscious and energy-efficient airport, providing sustainable transport solutions for passengers, staff, and partners.
In its first phase, the airport will be able to handle 12 million passengers annually with one runway and terminal. By the fourth phase, it will be capable of managing 70 million passengers a year, positioning it as a major regional hub.
