Dr. Mangi Lal Jat is a distinguished agricultural scientist with over 25 years of experience in conservation agriculture, climate-smart farming, regenerative practices, and sustainable intensification. Born on 4 May 1971 in Rajasthan, he holds a Ph.D. in Agronomy from ICAR-IARI, New Delhi. He has worked extensively on resource conservation technologies for smallholder farmers in Asia and Africa. Prior to his current role, he served as Director of the Global Research Program on Resilient Farm and Food Systems at ICRISAT, Hyderabad.
He has published more than 350 research papers and received several prestigious awards, including the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award. Dr. Jat assumed the charge as Secretary (DARE) & DG (ICAR) on 21 April 2025 for a tenure of three years. As Chairman of Agrinnovate India Limited, he plays a key role in agricultural innovation, technology commercialization, and global partnerships.
