Shri Shivraj Singh Takes Charge as CMD of CMPDI
New Delhi, January 2: Shri Chaudhari Shivraj Singh has officially assumed charge as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI), a Mini Ratna Category-I company and subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL).
Shri Singh brings over 35 years of experience in the coal industry, having served in pivotal roles at Coal India Limited and Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), including as OSD to the CMD of CMPDI. He is widely recognized for his expertise in opencast mine planning, project management, corporate planning, and enterprise risk management.
Before Shri Singh’s appointment, Shri Satish Jha held the position as interim CMD of CMPDI, ensuring smooth leadership transition following the retirement of the previous CMD, Manoj Kumar.
Shri Singh began his career at NCL in 1990 after earning a B.Tech in Mining Engineering from IIT (BHU), Varanasi. He has led major initiatives such as the Singrauli Coalfield Master Plan, and played a critical role in linking planning with execution at NCL, enabling the company to exceed 100 MTPA coal production. At CIL, he contributed to CIL Vision 2047 and the Long Term Plan 2035, shaping the strategic roadmap for India’s coal industry.

Join WhatsApp ChannelIn addition to his professional accomplishments, Shri Singh has received global exposure through executive education and international visits to countries including the USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Uzbekistan, and Australia. His academic achievements include an International Executive Diploma in Project Management (George Washington University, USA), certifications in Project Appraisal & Risk Management (Duke University, USA), Sustainability (ESCP, Paris), Industry 4.0 (Maribor University, Slovenia), and Project & Infrastructure Financing (IIM Bangalore).
With this appointment, CMPDI is expected to strengthen its capabilities in mine planning, design, and technological innovation, supporting CIL and the broader coal sector in achieving operational excellence and sustainable growth.
