According to government information, the Ministry of Coal has recently launched the Coal Logistics Policy and Integrated Coal Evacuation Plan to address the issue of coal transportation concerning rising demands.

New Delhi: Fourteen Rail projects have been taken up for implementation for improving coal evacuation where five rail lines out of that figure have already been commissioned and others are at various stages of construction.

According to government information, the Ministry of Coal has recently launched the Coal Logistics Policy and Integrated Coal Evacuation Plan to address the issue of coal transportation concerning rising demands. The government is planning to address the issue of coal transportation through the construction of New Railways Lines and capacity augmentation of the railway network, First Mile Connectivity [FMC] projects, Rail Connectivity projects, and Railway Sidings.

The respective evacuation facilities or infrastructures are planned in line with the country’s long-term production projection. In addition, the Ministry of Railways has planned several rail projects under Green Energy Corridor Projects, High-density network projects, and Rail Sagar projects. Additionally, coastal shipping and inland waterways are also being promoted for coal evacuation.

The recent railway plan demonstrated by the government is to create a future-ready Railway system by 2030. The NRP aims to formulate strategies based on both operational capacities and commercial policy initiatives to increase the modal share of the Railways in freight to 45%.
