What Happens in the ONGC Well Rudrasagar?

On June 12, around 11:45 AM, during servicing operations at Well No. RDS-147, an oil well of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited’s (ONGC) Rudrasagar Field in Sivasagar district, Assam, gushes of gas were observed from the well.

The company gave a quick update on the incident that happened in Rudrasagar Field. ONGC's immediate action on safety has been operationalised at that time, followed all safety standards and protocols. The site was promptly secured, and an emergency response team led by the Asset Manager reached the location without delay. However, no fire or injuries were reported. After the day passed, the next day on June 13, the company updated that the situation was under control. But after continuous efforts for 7-8 days, ONGC faced a very rough time and failed in each plan. After these failed attempts, the International Well Control Agency reached on the site on June 20, and took a preliminary assessment of the situation.

After the International team intervened, the situation got under control and saw progress. ONGC cleared the path for Well Capping Operations, Air Quality Safe, and continued the progress in heavy rains. After a two-week-long operation finally the capping of the well finally happened on June 27.
