New Delhi: Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), India’s first multipurpose river valley project and a power behemoth of Eastern India, proudly celebrated its 78th Foundation Day on 7th July 2025 with immense pride and enthusiasm at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, Kolkata. The event brought together dignitaries, employees, their families, and stakeholders to commemorate nearly eight decades of unwavering commitment to nation-building, sustainable development, and energy excellence.

The evening began with the invocation of Lord Ganesha, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chairman, the Member(Finance), the Member (Technical) and the CVO, DVC and the rendition of the soul-stirring DVC Geet.

In his opening address, the Additional Secretary, DVC, welcomed the gathering and reflected on DVC’s inspiring journey—from its inception in 1948 to its present-day standing as a powerhouse of progress and innovation.

The Foundation Day celebration served as a vibrant platform to honour the outstanding contributions of individuals and teams across the Corporation. The Rewards & Recognition Ceremony celebrated excellence in operational performance, innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility. Some key highlights include:

1. Best Generating Station:
-Winner: Durgapur Steel Thermal Power Station (DSTPS)
-Runner-up: Koderma Thermal Power Station (KTPS)

2. Best GOMD:
-Winner: GOMD-IV
-Runner-up: GOMD-VII

3. Best Employee of the Year:
-Executive: Shri Narendra Nath Maji, BTPS
-Non-Executive: Shri Tushan Debnath, MTPS

4. Best CSR Project:
-Winner: Mejia Thermal Power Station (MTPS)
-Runner-up: Durgapur Steel Thermal Power Station (DSTPS)

5. Green Station of the Year: Koderma Thermal Power Station

6. Safety Excellence Award: Chandrapura Thermal Power Station

The event also celebrated the academic brilliance of the DVC family’s young achievers, the wards of employees who excelled in national-level exams like IIT-JEE and NEET, highlighting the organisation's commitment to nurturing talent beyond its operational boundaries.

Further, the much-anticipated DVC Ideation Contest 2025 concluded with winning ideas that proposed future-ready solutions such as "Bay in a Box", "Hydrating the brand DVC", and "Decantation Wells in Ash Ponds". These innovations reinforce DVC’s vision for operational efficiency, sustainability, and smart expansion.

In his address, The Chairman, DVC by and large reflected upon the remarkable journey of DVC over the past 77 years. He recounted how DVC, since its inception, has evolved from a pioneering multipurpose river valley project into a key player in India’s power sector — contributing to regional development, industrialisation, and nation-building.

The Chairman highlighted the invaluable role of DVC’s workforce, whose dedication and perseverance have been the bedrock of the corporation’s achievements across generations. He also outlined DVC’s vision for the future, focusing on brownfield expansion projects, aggressive foraying into the renewable energy sector etc.

Touching upon upcoming initiatives, he spoke of DVC’s preparedness to embrace the dynamic challenges of the power sector — from embracing renewables and digital technologies to enhancing community engagement and infrastructure development. He made special mention of the significant financial performance of DVC in FY 2024–25.

In a touching gesture, the DVC Women’s Association extended donations to old- age homes and NGOs working for marginalized sections, echoing DVC’s longstanding values of socio-economic development and community care. The event concluded with a cultural extravaganza featuring performances that reflected the spirit of the Valley and the unity of the DVC family.

As DVC moves forward into its 78th year, it continues to stand tall—fuelled by legacy, empowered by people, and committed to a greener, stronger, and more power-ready future.
