The Annual Mines Safety Fortnight 2025-26 commenced at Coal Mines Division, Angul, Odisha, featuring the hoisting of the safety flag, release of SOP booklets, safety march, prize distribution, and Suraksha Rath safety advocacy, attended by ED Shri Sachidananda Jena.
Angul, Odisha – The Coal Mines Division at S&P Complex in Angul, Odisha, officially inaugurated the Annual Mines Safety Fortnight 2025-26, underscoring the industry’s commitment to worker safety and operational excellence. The event was graced by Shri Sachidananda Jena, Executive Director (S&P), who emphasized the importance of safety culture in mining operations.
The ceremony began with the hoisting of the safety flag, symbolizing the dedication of coal mining personnel to maintaining high safety standards. As part of the program, Safety Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) booklets were released to reinforce best practices in daily operations.
A highlight of the event was the vibrant safety march, demonstrating active participation from mine staff, along with prize distribution to recognize employees who have exemplified safety compliance and awareness. Adding to the outreach efforts, the Suraksha Rath – a mobile safety advocacy campaign – toured the mining complex, promoting critical safety messages to workers and staff.
Shri Jena encouraged all employees to uphold safety as a core value, stating, “Safety is not just a protocol but a responsibility that each member must internalize to ensure a secure working environment.”
The Mines Safety Fortnight is a flagship initiative in Odisha’s coal sector, aimed at creating awareness, encouraging safe working practices, and reducing workplace incidents across mining operations.
