Madhu S. Nair to Continue as CMD of Cochin Shipyard Until January 2026

New Delhi: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) announced that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Government of India, has approved the extension of tenure of Shri Madhu Sankunny Nair (DIN: 07376798) as Chairman & Managing Director of CSL until his superannuation on January 31, 2026.

Shri Nair initially assumed charge as Chairman & Managing Director on January 1, 2016. His tenure was previously extended for a second term from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2025, reflecting the Government’s confidence in his leadership.

About Shri Madhu Sankunny Nair:
Shri Nair holds a Bachelor of Technology in Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding from Cochin University of Science & Technology (First Class) and a Master’s in Engineering in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Osaka University, Japan. He has undergone advanced training in shipbuilding systems at IHI Shipyard, Kure, Japan, and specialized JICA training in Tokyo and Osaka.

Joining CSL as an Executive Trainee in 1988, Shri Nair has over 37 years of experience spanning the entire spectrum of shipyard management. Under his leadership, CSL has:

• Successfully collaborated with international technology partners, securing major global orders.

• Transitioned to a multi-unit company with seven units across India.

• Achieved listing on the stock exchange and earned the highest ‘Schedule A’ CPSE status.

• Implemented a “people first” policy, fostering CSL as a knowledge-driven organization.

He also serves as Chairman of CSL’s wholly-owned subsidiaries: Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited and Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited. Shri Nair is a fellow of The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (UK) and the Institution of Naval Architects (India). His contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the 2024 Management Leadership Award, Rotary Icon 2023, CUSAT Distinguished Alumni Award 2022, and the Pride of KMA Award.
