GRSE Signs Contract for 7th & 8th Multi-Purpose Export Vessels

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has strengthened its global presence by signing a contract with Germany’s Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler and Reederei GmbH & Co. KG for the construction and delivery of the 7th and 8th Multi-Purpose Vessels (MPVs) of 7,500 DWT. The agreement, signed on March 24, 2025, in Hamburg, follows an earlier 'Option Agreement' for the procurement of four additional MPVs.

GRSE will build a total of eight vessels under this deal, valued at approximately $108 million. Each MPV will be 120 meters long, 17 meters wide, and have a maximum draft of 6.75 meters, designed to carry 7,500 metric tonnes of cargo. The vessels will feature a single cargo hold for bulk, general, and project cargo, with containers placed on hatch covers. They are also specifically designed to transport multiple large windmill blades on deck.

The contract signing took place between Cdr Prasenjit Roy, IN (Retd), Deputy General Manager (Commercial Shipbuilding), GRSE, and Mr. Thomas Rehder, Managing Director, Carsten Rehder, in the presence of Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), Chairman & Managing Director, GRSE, along with Mr. Jonas Meinhardt, Managing Director, Carsten Rehder, and other senior officials.
