SAIL Bags Prestigious ‘Top Employer’ Certification; Holds Dual Workplace Honours
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna CPSE and India’s largest public sector steelmaker, has earned the prestigious ‘Top Employer’ Certification from the Top Employers Institute.
The certification was awarded on 24 August 2026 and remains valid up to December 2027.
This recognition gains added significance as SAIL also holds its third consecutive ‘Great Place To Work’ certification, awarded by the Great Place to Work Institute and valid until February 2027. With both credentials held at the same time, SAIL joins a select group of CPSEs that have secured two of the world’s most rigorous and independently validated workplace recognitions concurrently.
What the Top Employer Certification means
The Top Employer Certification is based on a rigorous, fact-based assessment of an organisation’s people practices. The HR Best Practices Survey evaluates practices across six key HR domains and 20 strategic topics covering the entire employee lifecycle. Every submission is independently validated by qualified HR auditors, and the assessment is benchmarked against nearly 2,500 certified employers across 131 countries.

Great Place To Work focuses on the Trust Index© — a confidential employee survey that captures how employees experience leadership credibility, fairness and pride in their workplace.

Top Employer Certification assesses the strength and maturity of HR systems and whether people processes are formally established, consistently implemented and aligned with global benchmarks.
In simple terms, one reflects how employees experience the workplace, while the other evaluates the robustness of the HR systems that support that experience.
Why it matters for SAIL
For an organisation employing more than 47,000 people across integrated steel plants and units in India, holding both certifications simultaneously is a significant external validation of both employee experience and the strength of its HR practices.
