Shri R. Chander Appointed as Managing Director of LIC of India

The Government of India, through the Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Services, has appointed Shri R. Chander as Managing Director (MD) of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), effective December 1, 2025.

Shri Chander, born on 6th September 1967, was serving as Executive Director (Investment-FO) at LIC prior to this appointment. His tenure as MD will continue until he reaches the age of superannuation on 30th September 2027, or until further orders from the government, whichever occurs earlier. He will hold the position in the pay scale of Rs. 2,05,400 to Rs. 2,24,400.

The appointment has been issued in exercise of powers conferred by Section 4 of the Life Insurance Corporation of India Act, 1956, and notified officially in the Gazette of India, Part II, Section 3, Sub-Section (ii) on December 1, 2025.

The notification was communicated to LIC management, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), and relevant government offices to ensure compliance and administrative action. Shri Chander’s appointment is expected to provide continued leadership to LIC as it navigates strategic investments and operational priorities in India’s insurance sector.
