NCRTC completes scheduled trial run of India’s first Namo Bharat train from Delhi to Meerut

New Delhi, June 23, 2025: The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has announced that it has successfully completed a scheduled trial run of the Namo Bharat train across the entire corridor from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut.
The 82 km stretch was fully covered in under an hour. Namo Bharat trains ran alongside Meerut Metro trains, with both systems performing simultaneously during the trail. This marks a major milestone in the operational readiness of India’s first Namo Bharat corridor, which connects Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut.

The Namo Bharat trains operated smoothly at their maximum operational speed of 160 km per hour, stopping at every station along the route between Sarai Kale Khan and Modipuram. The journey was completed as per NCRTC’s targeted schedule.
The advanced ETCS Level 3 hybrid signalling system is world’s first deployment in corridors over an LTE backbone. The system has passed all tests without any hinderances, underlining the corridor’s technological readiness.This is fully integrated with platform screen doors (PSDs) at every station.
A 55 km stretch of the corridor, comprising 11 stations, is currently operational for passengers and final finishing work and trial runs are underway on the remaining segments i.e., the 4.5 km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and the approximately 23 km section from Meerut South to Modipuram.

Meanwhile, trial runs of the Meerut Metro between Meerut South and the Modipuram Depot are also progressing rapidly. This project marks the first time in India that local metro services will operate on the same infrastructure as regional rapid transit trains. The 23 km Meerut Metro section includes 13 stations, with 18 km of elevated track and 5 km running underground.
