Delhi Experiences High Pollution Levels Amid Cold Weather
New Delhi is currently seeing a sharp rise in air pollution as winter sets in, impacting residents’ daily lives and health. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has hit dangerous levels. This increase is due to a mix of vehicle emissions, construction dust, burning of crop residue in nearby areas, and calm winter weather that keeps pollutants close to the ground.
Authorities have taken steps under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to tackle the issue and reduce public exposure. Residents, particularly children, the elderly, and people with breathing issues, are advised to limit outdoor activities, wear masks, and use air purifiers indoors whenever they can.
Weather forecasts suggest that cool temperatures and fog may continue in the next few days, possibly worsening air stagnation. Experts stress that this time is crucial for taking steps to lower health risks and promote joint efforts to improve air quality.
The city is collaborating with environmental agencies to monitor pollution levels, increase public awareness, and ensure timely action for the safety of its residents.
