BPCL Plans CNG, PNG Expansion Across 15 Kashmir Districts as J&K Pushes Cleaner Energy
Srinagar, September 3, 2026: Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is looking to accelerate the adoption of CNG and PNG across Jammu & Kashmir, with the company planning to expand its City Gas Distribution (CGD) network across 15 districts in Kashmir.
The development was discussed during a meeting involving J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, senior officials from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) and BPCL.
Focus on CNG, PNG adoption
The discussions centred on the role of natural gas in supporting Jammu & Kashmir's growth and energy transition.
CNG can support cleaner mobility, while PNG can provide natural gas-based cooking and industrial solutions for households and businesses.
BPCL has sought support from the J&K Government to help accelerate the rollout, including measures such as lower VAT, faster approvals and easier implementation processes.
BPCL targets 15 districts
BPCL said it is committed to expanding its City Gas Distribution network across 15 districts in Kashmir, bringing natural gas infrastructure closer to homes, businesses, industries and transport users.
The wider rollout is expected to support greater availability of cleaner-burning natural gas and strengthen the region's energy infrastructure.
