NHPC Director (Projects) Reviews Progress of 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydro Electric Project
New Delhi: The 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydro Electric Project received a major review visit from Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), NHPC, on 17 June 2026 as the company intensifies efforts towards commissioning the remaining generating units of India's largest hydroelectric project under construction.
Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh was welcomed by Shri Rajendra Prasad, Executive Director (In-charge) and Head of Subansiri Lower Project, along with Shri P. K. Ray, Executive Director (HM and E&M Works), and other senior officers associated with the project.
Comprehensive Review of Project Activities
During the visit, the NHPC Director (Projects) conducted a detailed inspection of key project locations, including the Dam Area, Diversion Tunnel Inlet and Outlet Areas, and the Power House Complex.
The review focused on the progress of ongoing civil and electro-mechanical works across various components of the project. Special emphasis was placed on the preparedness for the commissioning of Unit No. 5, as well as the advancement of construction and installation activities related to Units No. 6, 7, and 8.
Shri Singh also assessed the status of critical electro-mechanical works, concreting activities for Units 7 and 8, and protection works being carried out in the Diversion Tunnel Inlet Area.
Focus on Timely Commissioning
During discussions with project officials and executing agencies, the Director (Projects) stressed the importance of adhering to project timelines and expediting all remaining works.
He directed the executing agencies to accelerate pending activities in line with the approved project schedule to facilitate the early commissioning of the balance generating units.
The Subansiri Lower Hydro Electric Project is considered one of NHPC's flagship hydroelectric ventures and is expected to play a significant role in strengthening India's renewable energy capacity and power security once fully operational.

Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh appreciated the dedication, commitment, and hard work demonstrated by the project team in advancing the construction and commissioning activities.
He encouraged all officials, engineers, and workers associated with the project to maintain the same level of enthusiasm and commitment to ensure the timely completion and commissioning of the remaining units.
