NMDC CMD Amitava Mukherjee Inaugurates Mega Dumpers at Donimalai; Sets Bold 17 MTPA Target
Donimalai, Karnataka: In a massive show of strength and commitment to India’s mining sector, NMDC’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Shri Amitava Mukherjee, alongside the senior leadership team, conducted a high-stakes review of the Donimalai Complex in Karnataka today. The visit marks a pivotal moment for the state’s iron ore output as NMDC gears up for a record-breaking production surge.
During the high-profile site visit, CMD Mukherjee inaugurated a fleet of state-of-the-art dumpers, reinforcing NMDC’s commitment to technological advancement and operational efficiency. The new heavy-duty machinery is expected to significantly slash operational downtime and accelerate material handling across the complex.
Reviewing the Game-Changers: SP-2, TH-3, and the Mega IPCC Project
Beyond the inauguration, the leadership team dove deep into the progress of NMDC’s most critical strategic projects that are set to reshape the region’s mining landscape:
-
SP-2 & TH-3 Tapping Project: The CMD reviewed the status of these high-impact projects, emphasizing the need for swift execution to ensure a seamless supply chain.
-
IPCC (In-Pit Crushing and Conveying) System: In a move that underscores NMDC’s focus on sustainable and cost-effective mining, the IPCC project was given top priority. This system is designed to replace traditional truck haulage, drastically reducing costs and carbon footprints.

The "Race to 17 MTPA": A National Priority
The heart of the visit revolved around NMDC’s aggressive production roadmap. CMD Mukherjee interacted with the workforce, urging them to push the envelope and achieve the massive 10 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum) target from Kumaraswamy Mines alone.
With the Donimalai Complex acting as the crown jewel of NMDC’s operations, the leadership has set an even higher collective goal: achieving a total production capacity of 17 MTPA from the Donimalai Complex.
"This is not just a target; it is a national responsibility. With India’s infrastructure boom, we cannot afford to slow down. The Donimalai Complex must lead the charge, and with the dedication of our team and these new technological upgrades, 17 MTPA is well within our reach," said Shri Amitava Mukherjee during his address to the employees.
Fostering a Culture of Safety and Excellence
The leadership team didn't just confine themselves to the boardroom. They took the time to engage directly with the workforce on the ground. The CMD encouraged employees to focus on operational excellence while maintaining the highest standards of safety.
Insiders at NMDC suggest that this visit is a clear signal of the PSU’s aggressive strategy to capture market share and ensure raw material security for India’s steel sector. With the inauguration of these new dumpers and the accelerated timeline for the IPCC, NMDC is positioning itself for a stellar performance in the upcoming fiscal year.
