NTPC Green Energy Plans 7,800 MWh Battery Storage Facility at Bikaner Solar Project
New Delhi, June 1, 2026: NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has invited bids for the development of a 7,800 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at its Bikaner Solar Project in Rajasthan.
The project will be developed across five battery storage blocks with a total capacity of 1,950 MW / 7,800 MWh. The planned capacities include 500 MW/2,000 MWh, 550 MW/2,200 MWh, and three blocks of 300 MW/1,200 MWh each.
Under the EPC contract, the selected bidder will undertake design, engineering, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and integration of the battery storage systems. The scope also includes 15 years of comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M).
NGEL has specified a 25-year design life for the BESS and a minimum 10,000 charge-discharge cycles for the batteries. The project requires annual availability of 98%, minimum round-trip efficiency of 80%, and guaranteed dispatchable capacity of 92% over 15 years.
The battery storage facility will support renewable energy integration and grid reliability at the Bikaner solar complex, strengthening India's energy storage infrastructure.
