Powergrid Wins Tariff-Based Competitive Bid for Karnataka Transmission Project

New Delhi, January 8, 2026: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder under Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) to establish an inter-state transmission system in Karnataka. The project, aimed at strengthening the grid for integrating additional renewable energy (RE) potential, covers Davanagere (0.25 GW) and Bellary (2.75 GW).

The Letter of Intent (LoI) was received by POWERGRID on January 8, 2026, following the issuance of the LoI dated January 7, 2026. The project will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis.

The scope of the project includes the construction of a 400 kV double-circuit (D/c) transmission line across Karnataka, along with associated line bay works at both ends. It also involves augmentation work at Davanagere and Bellary pooling stations, including the installation of Interconnecting Transformers (ICTs) and additional line bays.

This project aligns with India’s ongoing push to expand renewable energy capacity and improve interstate transmission infrastructure. POWERGRID’s successful bid underlines its continued leadership in large-scale transmission projects across the country.
