Rajnath Singh Urges GRSE to Build Advanced Naval Platforms for Viksit Bharat@2047
Kolkata, March 5, 2026: Rajnath Singh, India’s Defence Minister, has urged Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) to continue developing state-of-the-art shipbuilding platforms aligned with emerging technologies to support the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
Addressing GRSE personnel in Kolkata on Thursday, the Defence Minister highlighted the critical role played by the defence PSU in strengthening India’s maritime capabilities and defence preparedness.
GRSE’s Contribution to India’s Maritime Strength
Praising the shipyard’s long-standing contribution to national security, Rajnath Singh described GRSE as an important chapter in India’s industrial and defence legacy. He noted that for nearly 150 years, the shipyard has equipped the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard with advanced warships, frigates, and patrol vessels that safeguard the country’s maritime interests.
He emphasised that every warship built at the yard represents the combined efforts of engineers, technicians, and workers, whose dedication contributes directly to nation-building.
“When a modern warship built by you sails through the ocean waves, it is not merely a structure of steel and machinery. It embodies the innovation of engineers, the precision of technicians, and the dedication of thousands working towards national security,” he said.
Focus on Technology-Driven Shipbuilding
The Defence Minister encouraged the workforce of Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited to embrace new technologies, innovation, and advanced manufacturing capabilities to maintain India’s competitive edge in shipbuilding.
He pointed out that the evolving global defence landscape will bring new technological challenges and increasing competition, and GRSE must stay ahead by developing niche platforms and next-generation naval solutions.
According to him, sustained commitment, innovation, and skill development will enable the shipyard to emerge as a global symbol of shipbuilding excellence.
Role in Viksit Bharat and Maritime Power Vision
Rajnath Singh underlined that institutions like GRSE are crucial to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, a long-term national development goal set by the government led by Narendra Modi.
He added that a strong shipbuilding ecosystem will also support India’s Blue Economy, enhance maritime security, and strengthen the country’s position as a leading maritime power.
Cultural Programme by GRSE Personnel
During the event, employees of Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited and their families presented a colourful cultural programme, showcasing India’s diversity and unity. The Defence Minister praised the performance and described it as a reflection of the nation’s rich cultural heritage.
The programme was attended by GRSE Chairman and Managing Director Commodore P. R. Hari (Retd.), along with senior officials from the Ministry of Defence (India) and the shipyard.
