SECL Makes History as First Coal Company to Procure Over Rs 10,000 Crore via GeM
The Company leads among all coal companies in purchasing from Government e-Marketplace) portal of the Government of India.

New Delhi: SECL has created a new record by purchasing more than Rs 12,284 crore from the GeM (Government e-Marketplace) portal of the Government of India so far in the financial year 2023-24 and is the first coal company in the country to do so. This purchase made by the company is the highest among all the subsidiaries of Coal India. From April 2024 till now, the company has purchased products worth more than Rs 1000 crore and services worth more than Rs 11,284 crore.
The company's target of purchasing through GeM portal for this financial year was around Rs 3310 crore but the company has gone much further and purchased 317% more than the target. More than Rs 63,000 crore has been procured by the Coal Ministry so far in this financial year through GeM portal and SECL has contributed about 1/5th of this.
Through the GeM portal, SECL has purchased products and services related to the coal industry, ranging from nuts and bolts to large HEMM (Heavy Earth Moving Machinery) machines used in mines such as 240 ton dumpers, 42 cubic meter shovels, and dozers, grader etc. Along with this, the company is purchasing various products and services related to bridge, electronics and telecommunication, IT, electrical and mechanical, and daily use through GeM portal.
100% purchase of all the things used by the company which are available on GeM portal is being done from GeM portal. In case any product is not available on GeM portal, the company is purchasing them through custom bidding as per the provisions of GeM portal.

In the last financial year, the company had purchased goods worth a record Rs 923 crore through GeM and this year too the company is moving towards a bigger target.
