NHPC ESG Score Revised Downward by S&P Global to 57 After Teesta VI Review

S&P Global has revised the ESG score of NHPC Limited downward to 57 as on 28 August 2026. The earlier score stood at 61, which was awarded in February 2026.

The update follows a ‘Media and Stakeholder Analysis’ linked to the Teesta VI Hydro Electric Project incident that occurred on 20 July 2026. According to the intimation filed with the stock exchanges, the reduction has come in the Social (S) and Governance (G) components. The Environment (E) score remains unchanged.

NHPC has formally raised its concern with S&P Global and asked for appropriate justification behind the deduction.

The company made the disclosure under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015 for the information of investors and the public.
