ONGC Flags Off First Crude from Bengal Basin; Ashoknagar Discovery Moves to Monetisation
ONGC has taken a decisive step towards monetising its first commercial hydrocarbon discovery in the Bengal Basin. The maiden consignment of crude oil from the Ashoknagar field was flagged off on 28 August 2026 for transportation to IndianOil’s Haldia Refinery.
The development well AS-1Z was spudded on 30 May 2026. In less than three months, ONGC successfully established the flow potential of light, high-quality crude oil from the well.
The flag-off ceremony was held in the presence of Hon’ble MLA of Ashoknagar, Dr. Sumay Hira, and was led by ONGC Director (Exploration).
The company described the development as the result of years of exploration and perseverance, now translating into production potential. With this milestone, West Bengal has been placed firmly on India’s hydrocarbon map.
